SANDRA K. JACKOBOICE, PSA

"I
don't like to think of myself as a traditional 'floral artist,'"
says painter Sandy Jackoboice. "That implies a simply
decorative motivation behind the work. I choose flowers because
they are complex--strong yet subtle, and possessing a quiet
drama." Indeed, Sandy's floral paintings are more like
portraits, expressing not only form and color but also the
unique personality and substance of the subject.
2004
may be a high water mark in Sandy's artistic career. After
nearly ten years (1990-1999) as Art Program Director for the
Franciscan Life Process Center in Lowell, Michigan, where
she developed an Artist in Residence program, Sandy's concentrating
on her own art--and is attracting a lot of attention both
locally and nationally. Her works have become sought after
by serious collectors in the upscale Naples, Florida, market.
The Pastel Journal featured an article, called "Pastel
on canvas", about Sandra and a new pastel technique
she developed that does not require framing in glass. In the
summer, she became a signature member of the Pastel Society
of America.
Like
any successful artist, Sandy's current working style is based
on years of self-guided exploration. But Sandy is no self-taught
amateur. Her formal artistic training began at Michigan State
University and she earned a BA degree from Aquinas College
in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Since then, she has engaged in
various postgraduate programs and studied with well-known
American artists.
While
florals are a favorite subject, Sandy is also known for figurative,
landscape and wildlife works, as well. Her commissioned work
(for private collectors or public display) feature a full
range of subject matter at the patron's request.
Sandy
spends the winter months painting in the full sun of Naples,
on Florida's Gulf Coast. She also has a home in Grand Rapids,
Michigan.
